Change is good!

   13 1/2 tiles x 18 1/2 tiles
   4 windows
   1 private bathroom
   6 fans
   3 sets of bunk beds
   2 wardrobe cabinets
   7 under-the-bed plastic storage containers
   1 plastic 4-drawer dresser
   1 mirror
   1 laundry basket
   1 lamp
+ 1 table for the lamp

= 250 sq ft that we've called home for the last 9 months

Over the past 289 days, we have co-resided with over 770 different people.  (Not in our personal room but under the same roof.)
That's a lot of people, even if you are a 'people person'!

We've been extremely blessed.
We've met some incredible people we now call friends.
We've witnessed amazing God-stories and watched them unfold right before our eyes.
We've fallen in love with diverse families and have prayed for them like they were our own.
We've heard life stories and we've been encouraged to share ours.
We've worked to minister and, yet, so many people have ministered to us in return.

But we are struggling and here's why.....
our current living conditions are less than ideal for our family.

While sharing 250 sq ft of personal space, the 6 of us have also begun sharing things like bad attitudes and occasional funky moods.  L

For those of you that have been here, you know that each room in the Guesthouse is named by a fruit of the Spirit.  I don't think it's coincidental that ours happens to be the Patience room...

...but even the most patient person in the world realizes when the time has come for change.

Our family unit is stressed and we cannot be as effective as we need to be in our jobs here in Haiti while we are all living in one room.

We need our own living space and we are unashamedly asking for your help!!

We believe that God has called us to this incredible work, as overseas missionaries, and though we aren't paid monetarily, we take our jobs very seriously!

Living in a third-world country is not cheap (as many are led to believe) and available housing is limited, as well as very pricey.  Most residences are 'for rent' instead of 'for sale'.  The first year's rent ($10,000-$25,000) is due upon signing a contract.  Homes do not come furnished and in order to have electricity- batteries, an inverter, and a generator are necessary and these things are the renters' responsibility.

Although it's terribly uncomfortable to ask for money, the reality is that we cannot do what we do without you and your financial support.  We currently need (65) families to commit to giving $50.00 a month (or less @ $100/month or more at $25/month).

Would you please consider being a part of the work that we are doing here in Haiti through Heartline Ministries?

If you would like to make a recurring monthly commitment you can do so here: GIVE

If you would like to give specifically to help fund our move you can enter a one-time gift amount here: GIVE

If you have already committed to give, we want to say thank you again for making a difference in our lives and those we come in contact with daily!

"God is writing His story, and He invites us to write it with Him... We become God's missionary people by joining Christ in the story line of others' lives.  And this is the grand narrative that makes sense of life:  God is reconciling the world to Himself,
and we are invited to join Him."

..sigh..

Found him in Texas in 1998.
He instantly adored Winston almost as much as I did.
He wasn't content to just sleep in our bed but had to be in my space thru the night.
He hid under the sheets when people came over because he wasn't fond of company.
He came running (and singing) when we whistled the tune to Andy Griffith.
He endured our toddlers' "love" for him.
He always knew when something was bothering me and camped out by my side.
He could be obnoxiously loud but he loved without fail...
   And we loved him!!!

A little over 2 years ago, our friends, Jim and Tracey, offered to take our smallest furry boys as we transitioned to Haiti.  When we left a big chunk of our hearts in Atlanta, I purposed to let go.  I didn't think I was going to survive the drive back to Mississippi after leaving them but we found comfort in knowing they were in such good hands.

We don't talk about our pets very much because a couple of us don't do real well when they 'come up'.

Today we found out that Hershey passed away.

It's been a hard afternoon and I've yet to be able to utter the words out loud to the kids.

Would love some extra prayers these next few days for us and for Jim and Tracey as they adjust to life without Hershey, now, too.  Our lives were better because of Hershey!

The Stage

With a new year comes new hope.
We are busting out of survival mode and beginning to dream again.
And while a favorite song played on my playlist tonight I began to pray...

Lord, in this next phase, we are:
   Clearing the stage
   Crushing the idols
   Seeking You, Lord.

Waiting for what You have in store.
Knowing that great is our reward,
   And being hopeful.

We're taking a break from all the plans that we have made.
   Waiting for You to whisper...
Begging, "please", for You to open up Your mouth and speak.
Praying for REAL, upon our knees, until they blister

Shine Your LIGHT on every corner of our lives, oh God.
   We're reading Your Word
Putting to test the things we've heard...
As our hearts and souls are stirred and rocked and broken.

Lord, we are clearing the stage.
And making some space for YOU, the One who deserves it.

"We wait for the Lord, our souls wait,
and in His word we put our hope.
Our souls wait for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning.."
Psalm 130:5-6

Free and Full

This past week and a half our family enjoyed having our sister/aunt and some friends here in Haiti and it was easy to feel free and full... in my time, my tummy and my heart! J

I believe that God purposes for us to live "free and full" whether we are surrounded by those we love or not but being with friends seems to make good days better and life a little bit 'fuller', right??

These last 5+ days were full of 'girl time' and I also enjoyed a break from the routines that fill my everydays.  It was soooooooo nice!  We packed a ton of activity into our short time together and after catching up on some sleep I think I could do it again next week!   (smiles)

"But it's not just about us... God wants you to flourish so that people can be encouraged, gardens can be planted, music can be written, sick people can be helped, or companies can thrive in ways that otherwise would not.  So let's stop and propose a toast: 'Here's to the person God designed, desired, and has determined you will become.'"
~Word For You Today

So, if you're joined with friends or even braving the day alone...
Take time to recoup and enjoy life so that you can
       share yours with others.
Seize opportunities to laugh and love and help someone else do the same.
Relish in the journey you're on, thanking God for His constant attention.
Watch the sun go down and the stars glow and pray
        for those who are struggling.
Take joy in knowing your Father delights in you and tell
someone else who might not know.
Live  in the truth that He has "...come that we may have life,
and have it to the full." (John 10:10)

"THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING TO ME;
YOU’VE TRULY BECOME MY SALVATION!
THE STONE THE MASONS DISCARDED
AS FLAWED IS NOW THE CAPSTONE!
THIS IS GOD’S WORK…
WE RUB OUR EYES-WE CAN HARDLY BELIEVE IT!
THIS IS THE VERY DAY GOD ACTED-
LET’S CELEBRATE AND BE FESTIVE!
OH YES, GOD
-A FREE AND FULL LIFE!"

-PSALM 118:21-25

Stirred, not shaken...

One year ago today we were challenged and inspired.

One year ago today we prayed for your support,
though unable to grasp how much we were going to need it.

One year ago today we could not have imagined the
        blessings that are ours today.

Thankfully, God has this amazing way of placing us right where we are supposed to be, right when we are supposed to be there AND He doesn't forget our incredible need for community in the process.

That brings us to today and we want to say....

We are so grateful for you!  As we continue to try and raise awareness regarding our need for support, we want you to know how much we appreciate the countless prayers, the one-time gifts, the monthly commitments, the end-of-year monetary gifts that were given in December, and the encouragement you have poured out!!!

As our 4 year old artisan scripted..... THANK YOU for giving so we can serve and go forward with our responsibilities here in Haiti!

"When I look back...I am stirred by the thought of the number of people whom I have to thank for what they gave me or for what they were to me."
