Guess what?!?

I know I already posted today but I had to share that......

we have sprouts in the garden!!!!

Yippeee!!!

We all gathered around it whooping and hollering!  Ha!!! Loude had just made it in with some yummy fruits and veggies and after I saw that we had sprouts I went in and got her... we looked at each other and yelled, "MAYI!!!" That's 'corn' in creole!  J

Never thought I'd be so excited to see the beginning of the garden take off...  but really, I never thought we'd see something this soon!  God sent rain at the perfect time!!!!  I am in such awe... and by the way, speaking of awe... check out these scenes he painted for us after the rain.......

These were all taken right outside our bedroom!  What a view, huh?
Continues to stop me in my tracks.... daily!

John and Yehn Yehn made it back safely and arrived just before the truck they were in had a flat, flat, flat tire.  God is so good, I cannot begin to describe all the ways He has revealed himself to us as we've asked!

P.S.  Daddy, look at the first picture again... see the branch to the far left?  The black spec on the branch is a hummingbird!  I took the next (2) photos for you!  I sure love you and can't wait for you to see all of this in person!!!!!  xoxoxoxoxo

give thanks in ALL circumstances, for this is

Enjoying a cool day!

It's rainy today and it's a lot cooler than normal!  It rained all day yesterday and I LOVE it when it rains here... seems to slow things down and it gets quieter.  It's very peaceful today.  Plus it gives us water for bathing and cleaning!  We've got buckets sitting out everywhere to collect rain water as it's been weeks since the water in the community has been turned on with any pressure.  We got a tank installed on the roof so that we will have water for the bathrooms but the water has only trickled out of the spout downstairs and hasn't had any pressure so we can channel it upstairs.  So... we will fill buckets until we can use the tank!  Thank you, God, for the rain!!! :)

John had to make an emergency trip to Cap Haitien today as we are out of everything!  For the first time, I almost got "panicky" yesterday.  We had 3 eggs so I made cornbread and used half for lunch and the other half (which fell off the counter and into the floor) we had for dinner.  Yes... I picked it up, brushed it off and prayed over each piece as I put it back into the container...  don't judge... desperate times call for desperate measures.
J  So anyway, we had a can of corn (that was here when we arrived), some grits and the left over cornbread for dinner.  It was actually one of our more enjoyable meals... not necessarily due to the food options but due to all the laughter.  I'm not sure if we all started laughing at the meal we were having or what but we ended up laughing about a wall made of beef jerky.  Oh, the things that sound good when you're hungry!  Ha!  Silliness proves to be a great stress-reducer!
Anyway, since we are out of eggs, out of bread, out of sugar, etc John and Yehn Yehn talked with a local driver this morning about getting a ride to Cap Haitien for those and other much needed items.

They loaded up and headed out.  John continues to be our HERO!!!

Loude goes to the fruit/veggie market for us on her way into town on Mondays but due to the rain she may not get here until the middle of the afternoon.  It has stopped raining now, actually, but the cooler temps are GREEAT!!

English class started yesterday afternoon at the church.  The class started with 10-12 people and by the end of class there were 35 there.  I am really impressed with John's teaching!  It's going to be good for them AND him I can tell, haha!  He took charge like he has been teaching for years!  We are learning to pick-up and take off wherever God leads, even in some areas we never dreamed would be left up to us.

After our one-of-a-kind dinner, we had family church last night.  What started as anything but interesting to some children I won't name turned into a couple of hours of sharing, singing and more laughing.  I have really come to enjoy and look forward to the church services here at the local church on Sunday mornings but church time as a family on Sunday nights, we have determined, is a must!  I anticipate lots of great things to come and we rarely get to hear the kids share personal things that God is teaching them any other time since they are always in groups of 10 or 15! We'd like to start some similar small group stuff with the orphans on Saturday nights, too, since everyone seems to be so comfortable with one another.  Join us in praying about kicking this off, please.

We also got a building estimate and a list of materials needed from the local Pastor for the cookhouse that we want to have built so we can get started with the plan to feed "the masses".  We should be able to build it and pay for the labor with about $800.  We want to see this happen ASAP so please be praying with us for those provisions, as well.

The sweet kiddos that I told you about in a previous post, Friday, have been back several times.  They were here on Saturday asking for things again.  Oh, how I can't wait to be able to help them!!!  It took everything in me not to run down and love on them and take them shoes and other items they were asking for.  They wanted their "foto" taken again so of course, I obliged.  They posed and posed...

...but not until they got leaves!!!!  God love them and their precious infectious smiles!

Radiating even in their lack of necessities!

The boy came back after they left so he could show me the toy he'd made.  He wanted his "foto" again!

I get excited thinking about seeing God provide more and more here!!!  Thank you so much for all the prayers you lift up on behalf of these and so many others!!!

Oh yeh, and Kylie came home with a baby chick the other day saying that he was lost and was hungry...

I wonder where she gets it!?!  J

It was scared to death and the kids tried to feed it.

And then Manuel wanted his photo with the chick on his head...  (never a dull moment around here!!!)

I don't think it ever ate anything.  He just kept squeaking.  We talked Kylie into going with Cabila to find his mom and leaving him with her.  She fought for a minute and then agreed and off they went in search of the mom.

As long as we don't have to witness any killing of the birds, we can stand letting them go back to their moms... J

I have to run but know we are sending love and prayers to all of you today!

Where you are is where I am home...

So today is my weepy day apparently… L

Maybe it’s because today is my sweet Winston’s birthday and I’m missing it for the first time in 15 years.

Maybe it’s because I don’t feel all that great today and I have nowhere to go to be alone.  Maybe it’s selfishness and the desire for some familiar comforts.  Maybe it’s discontentment because we don’t have a vehicle and our list of needed items keeps growing.  Maybe it’s pride because I’m tired of having to ask for things I need instead of being able to go get them myself.  Maybe it’s because ‘our’ new home is still not ‘put together’ the way I wish it was.  Maybe it’s because I give all day long every day and I just need to be still and fill up on God, myself.  Maybe it’s a combination of all of it or maybe it’s just because I am tired.  Maybe I’m just hormonal!

Whatever it is, I’m grateful that God accepts and loves me even on the weepy days.  I’m grateful that I don’t have to be ‘put together’ to approach my Father that already knows how I am feeling before I even confess it.  I’m grateful that He is enough when others (and even I) let me down.  I’m grateful that I can fall apart whether I have my own secret place to do in it or not.  I’m grateful that my ears can hear the sweet voices singing “How Great Thou Art” from the school this morning.  I’m grateful that all of my children have food to eat each day whether it’s what they want or not.  I’m grateful that although I miss my pets so bad I ache, I can take comfort in knowing they are being loved on tremendously and taken care of by some awesome family and friends!  I’m grateful that we have a place to call home whether it belongs to us or not.  I’m also grateful for the family who so graciously opened up this home for us!  I’m grateful that although I’m not sure when I’ll get to see my family again that I HAVE family who loves me and prays for me daily.
Oh God, heal my heart and make it clean!  Open my eyes to be able to see the things unseen.  Show me how to love like you love me…quickly, please…I’m empty…

Continue to break my heart, Lord, for those around me so that I will keep moving to do your will.  Everything I am and everything I have is yours.  Help me continue to surrender myself even on these less-than days.  Give me fresh perspective through my tears.  There is great healing in these tears, I know.  You’ve proved that over and over again.

Thank you for not only hearing my requests but inviting me to bring them to you.  Let me feel again what it is to be held… to know that your promise was when everything fell, You’d be here to hold me.  Tear down the walls that I’ve constructed.  Refuel my hope, God.  When I feel and remember the things that were torn from my life, help me dwell on what I’ve gained and not on what I’ve lost.  Remind me, O God, what you called me here for.  Enlighten the eyes of my heart today.  Thank you that you “WILL keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast because he trusts in You.” (Isa 26:3)

“O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you HAVE done marvelous things, things planned long ago.” Isa 25:1

Thank you, God, for the parentless that walk through this gate yelling, “Mommeeeeee…where’s Doddeee????”  And for the sweet sponges that want to learn more English so they can talk to us in our own language!  Oh, God, thank you for bringing me here even though I miss the comforts of home.  Thank you for allowing me to feel!  Thank you for the love notes I still find in my Bible!  Thank you for the handwritten notes from home..for the reminder from my sweet nephew that you said in Philippians 4, “And my God will supply ALL your needs in His riches in Christ Jesus”.

For your nearness, Lord, I hunger!  In your nearness there is healing… restoration in it’s fullest.  Oh, God, be near today!  Nearer, Lord!  I need to keep hearing from You… Your fullness is mine… “How you have helped the powerless!  How you have saved the arm that is feeble!  What advice you have offered to one without wisdom!  And what great insight you have displayed!” Job 26:2,3  Thank you that I can claim words written thousands of years ago as my own!  Thank you that I belong to you, apart from the things I do and the thoughts I think.  Thank you that your love is such a love I can’t escape!

You are gracious, Lord!  Every hour I need you!  In joy and in pain, I need you.  Bless me now, my Saviour, as I come to You… I praise you that temptations lose their power when you are near.  Take this heart -so often of stone- and make it yours, God!  I delight myself in the riches that are Yours, trading ALL that I have for all that is better.  Please accept my garment of praise, take my heaviness, God.  You are the greatest… you’re the richest!  You are so much better, God, than anything I know as good!

Thank you that although I crave alone time, I am never really lonely!  You are the God of love and you sent your one and only Son to be with me at all times and in all places!  May I NEVER downplay that!  I am never lost no matter how far I am from the home I’ve always known.  Thank you that wherever we live on this earth it’s only temporary because you are preparing a place so much greater than we can imagine in our eternal home with you!

“I’ll stride freely through wide open spaces as I look for your truth and your wisdom.” Psalm 119:45
