It’s great to be back among the living today after spending
the last 2 days in bed. Besides praying
that the sickness didn’t spread, I also prayed since last Friday that God would
keep me well enough to take care of everyone else. The
sickness Kylie had staggered itself but unfortunately it made it’s way around
to each of us, including me. It’s hard
for any mom to witness her family being sick, but especially when she is too
sick to tend to them. John was an amazing
caretaker in my absence the last couple of days, sometimes juggling 2 sick
patients at once!!!
Caleb was up sick at midnight and again at 5:00 this morning but he has rested a good bit today. Please pray for him
tonight that he will continue to get rest and that the sickness will pass sooner than later. I'm so ready for ALL of us to be well again... While I hate that he is ill, I am
grateful that I am well enough to be up and taking care of him today. Sickness...be...GONE!!!
Pray, also, for our friend, Herod, who lives at the Mission
House with us. (He lived at the
orphanage but has moved over here to free up a bed for another boy.) There’s
actually (2) Herods living downstairs in the Mission House currently. Herod Registre, the one we’ve known the
longest, is home from school today because his eyes were swollen shut not long
after he got up this morning. I think he
is more upset about missing school than he is about looking like he was in a wrestling
match that didn’t end in his favor. J After Motrin and Benedryl, He is resting with
ice packs. The swelling has gone down
and his eyes aren’t red. He says he
believes he got dust in them.
Besides asking for prayer and speaking of sickness, I want
to give you an update on what’s been going on here…
I got my first lesson in doing laundry by hand. J Loude is the awesome lady in the picture below with me. She comes everyday (except
Sunday) to help out with things I have no clue about… like washing clothes in a
big pan…
(3) different wash cycles in (3) different pans to be exact, and cooking on stoves that look like this…
The natives thought it was hilarious that the white girl was learning to wash her own clothes, by the way.
There are always eyes watching us everywhere we go but I drew quite the crowd that day. They watched for a while, murmured some things that they knew I didn’t understand, shared a few laughs and then went on about their business. All except Manuel (one of the young boys we’ve been feeding each night). He squatted down and started helping out!
I’ve noticed him helping with different projects around the yard since then. He loves to help and he LOVES to play! J He and LuLu can’t stand it that Caleb is sick today!!!
After Kylie got over being sick, she learned to ride her bike without training wheels!!…
The boys got haircuts…
And Candy Land and more puzzles were done!
From our list of projects, getting the wall finished that
wraps around the Mission House property has taken top priority. Maybe you noticed some of the wall and the
gate from some of the other pictures. This is where the wall stops and the new work is beginning...
The wall only goes about 3/4 of the way around the property currently. I'll post pictures soon so you can see the start and the progress of the next phases.
In the meantime, thank you for continuing to lift us up with your prayers and encouragement!! We appreciate each of you, while claiming Isaiah 32:18, "My people will live in peaceful dwelling places".
